Mountain safaris right behind Alanya

The Taurus Mountains rise straight up behind Alanya’s beaches, so the off-road tracks begin a short drive from most hotels. The Alanya Jeep Safari is the classic day: an experienced driver takes you up forest tracks to a mountain village, then down to the Dim River (Dim Çayı) for a swim in cold water and lunch. For a cooler route, the Alanya Sapadere Canyon Jeep Safari heads about 45 km east to a limestone gorge, where a wooden walkway leads past waterfalls and pools of water at around 12 °C.

Season and practical tips

Summer days in Alanya are hot, so the morning quad and buggy groups are the cooler choice, while the canyon and lake tours offer a break from the heat. Rafting runs mainly from April to October. On any tour with water, pack a swimsuit and towel; for quad and buggy trips, wear closed shoes and clothes that can get dusty. Quad and buggy drivers must be at least 16 and passengers at least 7, and the minimum age for rafting is 7. Pregnant guests should skip the jeep, quad, buggy and rafting tours.
