Antalya is a city break and a beach holiday in one. Konyaaltı beach runs along the western side of town, the old quarter of Kaleiçi wraps around the Roman harbour, and the large resort hotels of Lara and Kundu line a long sandy beach to the east. Behind all of it rise the Taurus Mountains. Our safari tours from Antalya make use of that backdrop: we collect you from your hotel, take you out to the foothills, forests, rivers and canyons for a half or a full day, and bring you back to the city in time for the evening.

Jeep, quad and buggy: off-road days near the city

The Antalya Jeep Safari is a full day in the Taurus foothills north-east of the city. The jeeps drive via Gebiz up to Yumaklar, a village at about 920 m, with panoramic stops, a swim in the natural pool of a waterfall and lunch at a mountain restaurant. Experienced drivers are at the wheel, so all you do is ride along and look around.

If you would rather drive yourself, the Antalya Quad Safari and the Antalya Buggy Safari head for an off-road park in the Kurşunlu countryside near Aksu, only 20–25 km (30–45 minutes) from the city. After a safety briefing and a short practice you ride for about 1.5 hours on forest tracks with dust, mud and water. Both trips take about four hours, with a morning and an afternoon group, and you choose a single or a double vehicle. A quad is steered with handlebars; a buggy has a steering wheel and seat belts and feels more like a small car.

Rivers and lakes: rafting, zipline and the Green Canyon

Köprülü Canyon National Park lies about an hour and a half from Antalya. The Antalya Rafting Tour takes you down roughly 14 km of the Köprüçay: class II–III rapids, breaks for a swim, an instructor in each raft and a riverside lunch afterwards. Antalya Zipline & Rafting adds a short zipline ride at the rafting base, with a harness and an instructor.

For a calmer day, the Antalya Green Canyon Boat Tour heads to the Oymapınar Dam lake north of Manavgat, about two hours away. The boat cruises between forested canyon walls and stops for a swim in the turquoise water; lunch and soft drinks on the boat are included.

Which Antalya safari suits you?

• Families with small children: the jeep safari or the Green Canyon boat tour – nobody has to drive, and children of all ages can come along.
• First-timers: the jeep safari shows you the mountains without any effort, and the class II–III rapids of the rafting tour are fine for beginners.
• Adrenaline seekers: a quad or a buggy if you want to drive yourself; rafting and the zipline if you prefer the water.
• Short on time: the quad and buggy tours take about four hours, so the morning group leaves the afternoon free for Kaleiçi or the beach.

Age rules for the quad and buggy tours: you can drive from 16 (with a parent’s consent until 18; a few vehicles need drivers aged 18+), and passengers ride along from 7. Rafting and the zipline are open from 7 years. The jeep, quad, buggy and rafting tours are not suitable for pregnant guests.

For a slower way out of the city, the Antalya Horse Riding Tour heads to a stable in the Lara and Kundu area, with a ride through pine forest and along the long sandy beach. Beginners stay at a walk with some easy trotting, children can join from the age of 6, and you choose between a morning group and a sunset group.

Season, hotel pickup and booking

The rafting season on the Köprüçay lasts from about April to October; in November the river is run on some days only, when water and weather allow. In the summer heat the morning quad and buggy group is the cooler choice, and a swimsuit is worth packing for the jeep safari, the rafting and the Green Canyon.

Hotel pickup is free from Lara, Kundu, Konyaaltı, Kaleiçi and other parts of Antalya. Your exact pickup time depends on where your hotel is and is sent to you after booking; if you are staying in Kaleiçi, you may be met at a central meeting point near Hadrian’s Gate.
