Safari tours and children go well together on the Antalya coast, as long as the trip matches the child’s age. Some tours welcome babies, some start at 5 or 7, and driving a quad or buggy is for teenagers from 16. This guide sums up the age rules, suggests a tour for each stage and shares practical tips that make a long day out easier for the whole family.
Age rules at a glance
- Green Canyon boat tours: open to all ages. Children under 3 travel free, and there is a child ticket for ages 3–11.
- Jeep safaris: the same ticket ages (0–2 free, 3–11 child ticket). Experienced drivers drive, and everyone stays seated with a seat belt on.
- Göynük Canyon zipline (Kemer): from about 5 years, with a weight range of 20–100 kg; child ticket for ages 5–11.
- Rafting, and zipline & rafting: from 7 years; under-18s join with a parent; child ticket for ages 7–11.
- Quad and buggy: passengers from 7; drivers at least 16, under 18 only with a parent’s consent, and some vehicles are 18+. Tickets are per vehicle, single or double.
Jeep, rafting, quad and buggy tours are not suitable for pregnant guests.
Babies and under-7s: boat trips and jeep safaris
With babies and toddlers, a Green Canyon boat tour is the gentlest choice. From Manavgat the lake is only 30–45 minutes away, so the Manavgat Green Canyon Boat Tour is one of the shorter days, at about 7.5 hours. The boats carry life jackets and have a changing cabin and a toilet; there are 1–2 swim stops of about 20–30 minutes; and lunch plus soft drinks on the boat are included. Put children in a life jacket before they go into the water and stay within arm’s reach.
Jeep safaris are a good next step once children are happy to sit in a vehicle for a while. The Side Jeep Safari has a tea and gözleme break in a village, a long lunch-and-swim stop at a lakeside restaurant on the Green Canyon lake, and water fights between the jeeps along the way. The Kemer Jeep Safari visits Gedelme village with its huge old plane tree and stops at a cold mountain river for a swim. Both take about 7 hours. The jeeps are open and the mountain roads bumpy and dusty, so for babies the boat remains the calmer option.
From 5 and 7: zipline, rafting and riding along
From about 5 years and 20 kg, children can ride the two lines and cross the suspension bridge on the Kemer Zipline in Göynük Canyon. It is a half-day trip, back by about 14:00, which suits young children well. Lunch is not included, so pack snacks, and bring cash for the canyon entrance fee.
At 7, the river opens up. On a rafting trip every guest wears a life jacket and a helmet, there is an instructor in every raft and the rapids are class II–III. Children don’t need to be able to swim, but they should be relaxed in water. The transfer is shortest from Belek, about 45–60 minutes to the river, so the Belek Rafting Tour makes a day of about 8 hours; our Köprülü Canyon rafting guide covers the other resorts.
Also from 7, children can ride as passengers on a quad or buggy driven by a parent. A double buggy, where the child sits beside the driver with a seat belt on, is the more comfortable option, for example on the Alanya Buggy Safari.
Teenagers: their own quad or buggy
From 16, teenagers can drive their own quad or buggy. Under-18s need a parent’s consent, and some vehicles are for drivers aged 18 and over, so mention ages when you book. No licence is needed. Every ride starts with a safety briefing and a short practice, helmets are compulsory, and riding time is about 1.5–2 hours within the four-hour trip. Not sure which vehicle to pick? Our quad or buggy comparison explains the difference.
Practical tips for a family safari day
- Tell us ages when you book. Ticket types and age limits depend on them.
- Check the length of the day. From Kemer, rafting and Green Canyon days last about 10.5 hours; with small children, the 7-hour Kemer Jeep Safari or the half-day Göynük zipline may suit you better.
- Pack food for the short trips. Lunch is included on jeep, boat and rafting days, but not on quad, buggy or Göynük zipline trips.
- Protect against the sun with hats, high-factor sunscreen (reapplied after every swim) and sunglasses.
- Bring spare clothes and a towel, plus a bag for wet or muddy things.
- Prepare for winding roads: a light breakfast, a window seat and any travel-sickness remedy you normally use.
- Pack water shoes for river stones and swim stops.
- Choose the morning group for a quad or buggy ride in summer, when it is cooler.
Booking is quick on the tour page or via WhatsApp. Nothing is paid in advance: you pay in cash on the tour day, and free cancellation up to 24 hours before gives you room to change plans if a child is under the weather. Family-friendly trips from the resorts closest to Green Canyon and Köprülü Canyon are on the Manavgat and Belek pages, and short trips such as the Göynük zipline are on the Kemer page.
